Identify The Purpose Of Life
Key Learnings
"What should be the purpose of my life?" This is the most important question for you.
Purpose of Life Concept
The population of Okinawa, a Japanese village, has the highest number of people who are more than 100 years of age.
Many scientists and researchers have visited Okinawa to unearth that how and why people of Okinawa have such a lifespan. After research, they figured out that people here are satisfied and happy with their life. This phenomenon is described as "Ikigai" which means "a reason for being” i.e. “purpose of life."
Ikigai can be explained by four circles, which are the questions one should answer (parts):
1. What you are good at?
This means the things in which you have expertise like cooking, gaming, movie reviewing, study, any profession, etc.
2. What do you love?
- "What you love to do" and "what are you good at" are two different things.
- Many times, you might be good at something, but you might not love to do it.
- Your happiness is a very important aspect of Ikigai.
3. What the world needs?
To know the purpose of your life, you must know what the world needs.
For example:
- If you take proper sleep and you are happy with this, then you can make it your career by becoming a “sleeping” expert.
- This is possible because the world needs this now as insomnia is an issue and people are looking out for ways to have proper sleep.
- You can share your learnings with the world.
- So, sleeping is not a waste of time, you can make it an opportunity because the world needs it.
4. What you can get paid for?
- This is a necessary and important part of the purpose of life.
- You cannot ignore the importance of money.
- Having money is important; not chasing it.
- You should know whether you can earn money from the thing you are good at, what you love, and what the world needs.
These four circles together make your Ikigai or purpose of life.
